Site Stats - Keyword Tracking

The other day I was launching a new little niche site and started testing some new traffic sources. My numbers started going down quickly. I went from a 45% optin rate to a 15% optin rate. Because I’m using lead page generator I was able to see my numbers in real time. I was also able to see where this ‘junk’ traffic was coming from and what vender was sending it to me. I instantly went to the traffic source and made some quick modifications to the ad targeting (they had my ad on some wresting site…LOL) so it was more targeted to my market.  My conversions started climbing back up

That’s when it hit me…

…If I didn’t know my numbers, I wouldn’t know what to look for… yet alone I’d be losing thousands of dollars in untargeted traffic. Good thing for lead page generator (shameless plug…)

Here’s a little method I wanted to share with you, that will save you some bucks.

Step 1: Before you send any traffic to your site and roll out your advertising campaign do this. Send some targeted traffic using Google pay-per-click and use laser targeted keywords, like this…

‘ [keyword phrase here] ‘

Add the top 10 or 20 keywords and run it.

This will allow you establish a base line (your numbers). Now you’ll have a starting point and things can only go up from here.

Step 2: If you’re conversion rate is lower than 20% I would start testing your optin page. You want to get this number up to at least 30% before rolling out your ad campaign.

Step 3: Once you get your optin rate up (30% or higher) then you can start rolling out your advertising. You want to keep an eye on it. It will start to drop due to traffic plus or minus 5%… don’t worry.

Step 4: Keep testing… DON’T STOP!
